Kids dental Insurance, Which dental insurance plan is right for my son?
Right now I have dental insurance though work. It is Delta Dental PPO. My son is seven years old and in the pasted I have paid out of pocket for his dental needs. Now that I have dental insurance though work I was thinking about adding him to my plan.
The thing is open enrollment is not until the end of the year. So I was looking on line at the HMO dental insurance plans you offer that would be cheaper monthly for me then adding him to my current plan. Can I sign up just my son on an HMO insurance plan? Or should I just add him to my policy when I can?

Many HMO plans will let you add just your son to the plan by himself but you would need to call the member service line to confirm before buying. There are still some dentist insurance companies that will not write a minor on a plan without an adult listed.
I would say if you can get a dental HMO plan to write only your son then the dental saving would be well wroth it. The fact that it would also be less expensive then adding him to your current dental makes it all the better.
If you can not have just your son to the HMO plan you are looking at, then as long as you are still taking him into see the dentist it really does not matter if you wait to add him to your current dental plan.

May I pose this question. If the HMO plan is in fact cheaper then what you are currently have now. Why don’t you see what the HMO couple rate is for you and your son.
If you like the HMO for your son would not not also like it for yourself? If so maybe cancel the dental plan you have now and get the HMO that seems to be a better plan. Something to look into anyway.
