Dental insurance for kids, does not my dad have to keep me on his dental plan
I am 23 and a full time college student. I have only a part time job and I live at home with my parents. However just a few days ago my dad said that he would be dropping me of his health and dental insurance he has though work because they are increasing the cost to him being taken out of his paycheck.
I though he had to keep me on his insurance until I was 26 now. What up with him drop me off it? The health I am not too worried about because even though I am only working 25 hours I get medical insurance with my job. I do not get dental unless I am working a full 40 hours which I can not do with school.
My dad know this and will not change his mind. Stated if he removes me from one it get removed from both. I need to go to the dentist in a month for my six month check up. What can I do now about getting my cleaning for free.

Do not get confused with what is going on. The new rule is that if your parents want you on their insurance the companies have to keep on the plan until you are 26 whether or not you are a full time student.
Not that your parents have to keep you on their plan. So if your dad does not want to have you listed any more then that is up to him.

Maybe your dad thinks you are old enough to start taking care of your own needs. All you have to do is to buy dental insurance. Many plans do offer free cleaning and preventive care just read the plan terms and conditions and get the one the best fits your needs.

I would talk to your dad. Find out how much his insurance rates are going up with you on it. Offer to pay the difference. You can not blame your dad for not wanting to spend more money then necessary so step up and tell him you are not looking for a free ride and that you would be willing to pay the difference if he keeps you on his plan for now.

I am 21 and I had to get my own dental insurance plan too. But then I was the one that told my parents that I would get my own insurance since I was moving out of the household any way.
If you do not get dental insurance though your job. Do what I did and get a low cost HMO dental plan. My office visits and X-rays are free and I only have to pay $20.00 for a cleaning not to bad. Look to see what you have in your area.
