Dental care, my son first dental check up

Monday, Nov. 1st 2010 9:48 AM

My son is two and I will be taking him to see the dentist in two weeks.  this is his first visit to the dentist to get a check up.  I really not sure all of what they will do.  Well my son get a cleaning?  I am not sure how he will act since he never been to the dentist but I can stay with him right?  How long does a check up normally take.

For the first dental visit on a two year old it is pretty much what they will do for an adult. The will normally take X-rays, do and oral check and more then likely do a basic cleaning.

It should only take about 30 – 40 minutes or so so it is not so long to wait. Most dentist will let the parent be with the child during the process but you should call and check with your dental office to make sure.

  2. Danger Says:

First relax. Really kids pick up on our stress levels. If you act like this is a big deal so will he. Try and make it a fun day. Tell him how much fun he will have. Maybe afterwords do something he likes just the two of you if possible.

Keeping the dental appointment light and fun will go a long way with making things easier for your son. You do not want him to start having dental fears. Many times dental fears come from when we are young and stay with us until we are much older.

  3. Eddie Says:

I agree make it a fun day for your son. The dentist will not do anything to hurt your son. Just, X-rays and the check up. Unless you book for a cleaning you may not get one.

But if you do they will take it really easy with a two year old. I do not see why you can not be with your son my dentist always let me stay with my daughter. So I did until she felt she was too old to have me hanging around her for her dental appointment.
