Children dental Insurance in California, Will a Dental HMO cover for Pediatric Dentistry.
Children dental Insurance in California, Will a Dental HMO cover for Pediatric Dentistry. My son is not yet three and I want him to start seeing a dentist but it will need to be a pediatric dentist. My current insurance does not cover for specialist and I can not afford getting a dental PPO plan at this time. Will getting a lower cost dental HMO which I can budget in offer Pediatrics Dentistry services?

Many HMO plan have benefits for seeing a specialist however the benefits are not as good as want you get when you see the general dentist in the plan. On average the saving you get is around 20 to 30 percent but that will very depending on the plan.
The real issue is making sure that the HMO plan you are reviewing has a Pediatric dentist in there network. Because although the plan may have some benefits for specialist if there are not any in the network that you can go to it does you little good.

Another dental plan option for your child may be getting a dental discount plan. Under most dental discount plan you get at least a 20 percent saving off any Specialist they may have in their network of providers. Course that means making sure they have a dentist in the network that you would want to go to but also as there is a provider that does the services you want to have you will get a reduce or discounted savings.

There are a few general dentist that are able to see children under five. I would start with trying to find a general dentist in the plan network that is able to see your three year old. There is a big price difference in seeing a family or general dentist then going straight a specialist when it may not be needed.
